I have just received the Progress report from STS 52 on the following students:

DE VET   P.5    Expected to complete 16th Sep. 44.

FOKKER  P.8    Expected to complete 23rd Sep. 44.

PETERS  Q.4    Expected to complete 30th Sep. 44.

These students have only recently returned from Holland and are, therefore, aware of the grounds, and provided they can be considered as fully trained WT Operators, I have asked MT/2 to forego their W.X. course.

Owing to the existing situation in the field, and the extreme urgency, I would very much like to despatch the above operators the following moon-period starting om 26th September 1944. A little time would be required to prepare and brief them, and I shall be glad to know the earliest possible date they would be at our disposal.

                                                                      P. DE VOS

As Promised, I saw this student on the 2nd inst., with regard to the Gibraltar question. The facts are as follows:-

When he was coming trough SPAIN en route for Gibraltar, he sent a telegram from MADRID to [redacted], London, introducing himself as PETER DAINTY, and referring to a mutual connection in HOLLAND. This connection turns out to be:
                                        [redacted]
                                        Velp (Gelderland)
                                        Meteorworks.

It appears that, on arrival in Gibraltar, another telegram was sent to [redacted] referring to the first one and asked for a loan of £.25,-. The money was sent to DE VOS, c/o Capt. Richards. At no time did DE VOS reveal himself to [redacted] as DE VOS. He signed the second simply 'PETER'. [redacted] therefore, knows him as PETER DAINTY. Whilst in Gibraltar he spent a certain amount of money. It seemed that he was drawing this money from Capt. RICHARDS to whom he had apparently handed the original amount for the sake of convenience. As the banks were closed when he left, Capt. RICHARDS gave him a cheque for the balance due, viz £.18,-

The above is the story which is now on record for the first time. Out of it emerges two points, vis:

1) How can DE VOS best give [redacted] the news for which the latter aks about [redacted]

2) How can he best return the money he owes?

These two points will have to be settled by Security.

1-1-1944.

Zeer geachte Heer,

                                                                                           Hoogachtend,

                                                                                        w.g. Pieter de Vos.

STS-22, 20-05-1944.
This student is very enthusiastic about his job. He considers it highly dangerous, but does not mind. He is used to living an underground existence with false identity papers, etc. He is intensely patriotic. has plenty of initiative.

Morse report, 23-05-1944.
Speed: Sending 8 receiving 9.5
Quality: Fair.
General: Very keen, making good progress.

STS-22, 31-05-1944.
Nothing to add to previous report. He is a very good all round type.

STS-22, 07-06-1944.
This student's youth, rather throaty voice and favourite exclamation of "Good Lord" earns him a little teasing too, in which, however he olds his own and is something of a comic in his quiet way. he is generally more popular 27 AM 5.
Physically weak, but a trier, like P.8 he is very devoted to the Royal Family.

STS-HQ to STS-51, 07-06-1944.
Morse: Sending and receiving 14 wpm. Good.

Physical.
P.T. is highly to be commenced for his tenacity. Physically below average, but has made great strides. Running and stamina both fair and has a fair turn of speed. Ropes has improved from minus quality to a fair climber. Still tires quickly but tries hard.
S.K. fair.

Weapon.
Pistol is quite good on this subject, fast on trigger and manipulation. Style also very good. Average shot. Machine Carbine. Also good on this subject and very confident - average shot.

General.
Intelligent sociable and keen to become efficient as soon as possible. Extremely cheerful, he almost tempts one to think he is too young and easy going and thoughtless to do this work, but he is serious at heart. Should make a good operator in the field.

Will not now attend course at STS-52 until 25-06-1944.

STS-51, 17-07-1944.
This student has only be able to do 2 jumps at this school in the daytime (1 jump from the balloon and 1 jump from the plane, which he enjoyed very much). Owing to weather conditions he was not able to complete his parachute jumps. He is very eager to return and do the night jump. His security is good without exception. he handles his money well. His morale is good and he drinks moderately.

STS-51B, 17-06-1944.
This NCO worked very well and showed team spirit. They were very keen to learn all he could in ground training which he carried out well. Was very neat in the execution of controlled movements and he would make a good parachutist with a little more practice. He received lectures on containers and their disposal and reception committee procedure.
TWO DECENTS  NOT CLASSIFIED.

Remarks.
A young and fit party who did well. A keen worker and well behaved. Training was given in leg bag dropping but it was not found possible to make this descent.

STS-HQ to STS-52, 30-06-1944.
To attend STS-52 for training 02-07-1944.

STS-51A, 30-06-1944.
Returned to complete his course having made two descents previously. He was a little incensed at having to do the ground training again, but his performance was good. Made two descents, one from a balloon with leg bag by day and one from an aircraft by night.
TWO DESCENTS  FIRST CLASS.

Sgt. French STS-52.
Arrived 02-07-1944. This student possesses a very youthful outlook on life. He has settled down well here and has become quite popular with the others. he is a good mixer and is always very polite and willing to help others. He has a somewhat weak character, is rather easily influenced by others, this is, I believe, mostly due to his youth, but otherwise he possesses common sense and mentally stable. His character is truthful and honest. He is very patriotic and is definitely loyal to the Allied Cause. He does not indulge in women or drink and usually goes out cycling in the country. His reaction on to the initial security talk was satisfactory and he seems to be interested in security in general , which as far as can be judged at present he observes well.

Sgt. French STS-52, 29-07-1944.
This student has changed little since the last report dated 08-07-1944. He has settled down well and is popular with all. His security is good and he observes it well.

Sgt French STS-52, 28-08-1944.
Little more to add to the previous report dated 29-07-1944. Seems very good all round man. His habits are moderate and he is trustworthy and very patriotic. His security is good and he appears to be very security minded.
