The following telegram of July 2nd 1944 states that Tobias had crossed the border into Spain, although it is not yet entirely clear which route was taken. According to the Escape and Evasion reports of the two Americans, they were put on a train in Toulouse and then travelled to Montréjeau. From there, they continued by bicycle until they had to proceed on foot. According to one of them, the journey through the Pyrenees lasted seven days, during which they also spent two days in a cave waiting for transport by car to Barcelona. Near Graus, they were reportedly arrested and taken to prison by the police. The location of this prison is not specified.
